On Friday 16th and Saturday 17th September, St Andrew’s participated for a second year in the Heritage Open Days festival (www.heritageopendays.org.uk/). Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, which takes place each year at venues across England.
This year’s festival theme was ‘Astounding Inventions’ and we decided to feature our rare medieval – but still working – faceless clock. The clock was illuminated throughout the two days so visitors could get a good look at its workings within the cleaned glass cabinet that protects it.
Local volunteers manned the church and gave brief talks about the clock to visitors before the hourly striking of the church bell.
It was a pleasure to welcome and chat to many visitors and refreshments were provided.
